  32 <P STYLE="font-style: normal; text-decoration: none">This section
  33 describes the options presented under the Advanced Tab of the
  34 preferences dialog.</P>

  36 </P>
  37 <P><U>Full Screen</U></P>
  38 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Location</B>: Selects the location
  39 and position of the full screen window. 'Determined by window
  40 manager' will leave the window placement up to the window manager.
  41 'Active screen' places the window on the same screen as the GQview
  42 main window. 'Active monitor' does the same, but limits the full
  43 screen window size to the monitor containing the main window. The
  44 remaining choices are dependent on the multiple monitor
  45 configuration.</P>
  46 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Stay above other windows:</B>
  47 Enable this to have GQview ask the window manager to keep the full
  48 screen window above other windows. Note that the window manager may
  49 ignore the request. This option is not relevant when the full screen
  50 location is determined by the window manager.</P>
  51 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Smooth image flip</B>: This option
  52 delays the image change in full screen until the next image is
  53 entirely decoded into memory, the result is a smoother transition
  54 between images.</P>
  55 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Disable screen saver</B>: This
  56 option will execute <I>xscreensaver-command --deactivate</I> once per
  57 minute to avoid the screen saver from activating when GQview is
  58 displayed full screen.</P>

  61 <P STYLE="font-style: normal; font-weight: medium"><U>Delete</U></P>
  62 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-style: normal"><B>Confirm file
  63 delete</B>: Prompts for confirmation before deleting files.</P>
  64 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-style: normal"><B>Enable Delete
  65 key</B>: Disable this to disassociate the delete file function from
  66 the Delete key. This option does not effect the [Control] + D key
  67 sequence. May be useful in combination with &ldquo;confirm file
  68 delete&rdquo;, above, disabled so that accidentally hitting a single
  69 key will not result in deleted files.</P>
  70 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-style: normal"><B>Safe Delete</B>:
  71 Moves deleted files to a temporary folder, for easy retrieval of
  72 deleted files. Files in the temporary folder are retained until the
  73 maximum size is reached, at which point deleting additional files
  74 will result in the removal of the oldest files to reclaim the space
  75 needed for the new files.</P>
  76 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in; font-style: normal"><I>Note:</I> Files
  77 moved to the Safe Delete folder are prefixed with a six digit number
  78 in the format:</P>
  79 <P STYLE="margin-left: 2.36in"><I>nnnnnn_FILENAME</I></P>
  80 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in; font-style: normal">This is used by
  81 the delete feature to distinguish which files to remove first when
  82 clearing space for new files. The digit counter increments with each
  83 deleted file.</P>
  84 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-style: normal"><B>Folder</B>: The
  85 location of the folder used by the Safe Delete feature.</P>
  86 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Maximum size</B>: The size to use
  87 for the Safe Delete folder, in megabytes.</P>
  88 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Clear</B> button: Removes all files
  89 contained in the Safe Delete folder.</P>
  90 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>View</B> button: Changes the GQview
  91 main window to display the contents of the Safe Delete folder.</P>

  94 <P><U>Behavior</U></P>
  95 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-weight: medium"><B>Rectangular
  96 selection in icon view:</B> Enable this to change the selection
  97 method used when selecting multiple items in an icon view.</P>
  98 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Descend folders in tree view</B>:
  99 This will allow GQview to read sub folder content to determine if it
 100 should display expander indicators in the folder tree view.</P>
 101 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in"><I>Note:</I> Disable this if GQview
 102 wakes up auto mounted network shares, or takes too long to initially
 103 display the folder view.</P>
 104 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>In place renaming</B>: When
 105 renaming a single file, this will allow the rename entry to appear
 106 directly over the original filename.</P>

 109 <P><U>Navigation</U></P>
 110 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Progressive keyboard scrolling</B>:
 111 This will cause image panning speed to gradually accelerate when
 112 holding down the keyboard arrows.</P>
 113 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Mouse wheel scrolls image</B>: The
 114 default is for the mouse wheel to change the image, and to scroll the
 115 image when shift is used in combination with the wheel. Enabling this
 116 swaps the behavior so that operating the wheel will scroll the image,
 117 and holding down shift will change the image.</P>

 120 <P><U>Miscellaneous</U></P>
 121 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-weight: medium"><B>Store keywords
 122 and comments local to source images:</B> When enabled, GQview
 123 attempts to store metadata such as keywords closer to the source
 124 image. The resulting location is the source image's folder, in a sub
 125 folder with the name &quot;<B>.metadata&quot;</B>. When the image
 126 source folder cannot be written, GQview falls back to saving the
 127 medata in &quot;$HOME/.gqview/metadata&quot;.</P>
 128 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Custom similarity threshold</B>:
 129 This setting is used by the compare method &ldquo;similarity
 130 (custom)&rdquo;, located in the Find Duplicates window.</P>
 131 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Offscreen cache size</B>: GQview
 132 only renders the visible portion of an image. To reduce rendering the
 133 same area frequently when panning an image, some memory is used to
 134 retain the recently rendered image data. This value controls the
 135 maximum amount of memory to use.</P>
