  33 <P>The folder pane contains the menu bar, tool bar, path entry, and

  47 often used operations. The tool bar can be hidden or shown by
  48 selecting &ldquo;Hide toolbar&rdquo; from the view menu.

  51 buttons are only displayed as an icon, the text below refers to the
  52 tool tip that appears by hovering the mouse over each button.</I></P>
  53 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Show thumbnails:</B> This button is
  54 active when the file list is in list view mode, and activating it
  55 will toggle the display of thumbnails.</P>
  56 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Change to home folder:</B> Change
  57 the main window to display the contents of the user's home folder.</P>
  58 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Refresh file list:</B> This will
  59 check for changes to the active folder and update the window.</P>
  60 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Zoom in:</B> Increase the image
  61 display size.</P>
  62 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Zoom out:</B> Decrease the image
  63 display size.</P>
  64 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Fit image to window:</B> This will
  65 size the image to fit within the image view.</P>
  66 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Set zoom 1:1:</B> Restore zoom to
  67 the image's original size.</P>
  68 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Configure options:</B> Displays the
  69 <A HREF="10_options.html">Options window</A>.</P>

  71 folder pane, file pane, and status bar between the main window and a
  72 secondary window.</P>

  76 entry</FONT></FONT></P>
  77 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This displays the active folder of the
  78 window and allows typing a location.</P>
  79 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">A folder or file can be typed into the
  80 entry to quickly change to a desired location or image, the main
  81 window will update after pressing the Enter key. Tab completion is
  82 also available in the path entry.</P>
  83 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in"><I>Note: Tab completion uses the tab
  84 key, press the down arrow to move the focus from the entry.</I></P>
  85 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">Next to the path entry is a button
  86 with a down arrow, clicking this will display a drop down list
  87 containing the most recent locations viewed. The list is ordered such
  88 that the most recent location is at the top. Selecting a location
  89 from the drop down list will change the window to display the
  90 location.</P>

  94 list</FONT></FONT></P>
  95 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This displays a list of sub folders
  96 contained in the active folder, or a tree that includes all folders
  97 in the file system.</P>
  98 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">A <B>context menu</B> can be displayed
  99 by clicking the right mouse button on the folder pane or pressing the
 100 menu key while the folder pane has the focus</P>
 101 <P><U>List view</U></P>
 102 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This mode can be enabled by
 103 unselecting &ldquo;Tree&rdquo; from the View menu, pressing Control +
 104 T, or unselecting &ldquo;View as tree&rdquo; from the context menu.</P>
 105 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The list view mode displays sub
 106 folders contained in the active folder in a standard vertical list.
 107 The parent folder can be selected with the folder named &ldquo;..&rdquo;.</P>
 108 <P><U>Tree view</U></P>
 109 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This mode can be enabled by selecting
 110 &ldquo;Tree&rdquo; from the View menu, pressing Control + T, or
 111 selecting &ldquo;View as tree&rdquo; from the context menu.</P>
 112 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The tree view mode displays all
 113 folders in the file system, starting with the root folder and
 114 branching out to include sub folders. A folder branch can be expanded
 115 or collapsed by clicking the expander next to each folder icon, or by
 116 pressing the respective &ldquo;+&rdquo; or &ldquo;-&rdquo; keys when
 117 the folder branch has the focus.</P>
 118 <P><U>Sorting</U></P>
 119 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The order of the folder names will
 120 match the order selected for the file pane. Sort order can be changed
 121 by clicking the sort area of the status bar or from the context menu
 122 of the file pane.</P>
 123 <P><U>Context menu</U></P>
 124 <P>Right clicking the mouse or pressing the menu key while the folder
 125 pane has focus will display a menu. The menu functions will perform
 126 the same as those that match the window's <A HREF="2_2_menus.html">menu
 127 bar</A>, however a few functions are unique to the context menu:</P>
 128 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Up to parent:</B> This will change
 129 the window to display the contents of the parent folder.</P>
 130 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Slide show:</B> Start a <A HREF="8_1_slideshow.html">slide
 131 show</A> that contains all images in the selected folder.</P>
 132 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Slide show recursive:</B> Start a
 133 <A HREF="8_1_slideshow.html">slide show</A> that contains all images
 134 in the selected folder, and all images in the sub folders of that
 135 folder.</P>
 136 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Find duplicates:</B> This will open
 137 a new <A HREF="5_2_finding_duplicates.html">find duplicates</A>
 138 window containing all images in the selected folder.</P>
 139 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Find duplicates recursive:</B> This
 140 will open a new <A HREF="5_2_finding_duplicates.html">find duplicates</A>
 141 window containing all image in the selected folder, and all images in
 142 the sub folders of that folder.</P>
 143 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-weight: medium"><B>New folder:</B>
 144 Creates a new folder that is a sub folder of the selected folder.</P>
 145 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-weight: medium"><B>Rename:</B>
 146 Renames the selected folder.</P>
 147 <P STYLE="margin-left: 1.58in; font-weight: medium"><I>Note: Renaming
 148 a folder will not update metadata, such as keywords, or cached
 149 thumbnails for images contained in that folder, the data will be
 150 lost.</I></P>
 151 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-weight: medium"><B>View as tree:</B>
 152 Toggles between the list and tree modes of the folder pane.</P>
 153 <P><U>Drag and drop</U></P>
 154 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">Image files can be dropped onto
 155 folders displayed in the folder pane. A menu will appear allowing you
 156 to select to move or copy the dropped images into the target folder.
 157 The list will automatically scroll up or down when the drag pointer
 158 is near the respective top or bottom of the list. When in tree mode,
 159 hovering over a folder for a brief period of time will expand that
 160 folder.</P>
 161 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The folders can used as a drag source
 162 for drag and drop, for example to add images in a folder to a
 163 collection window. However drag and drop can not be used to move or
 164 copy folders in GQview.</P>
