  31 <H1>7.3 Keywords Sidebar</H1>
  32 <P>The Keywords sidebar displays keywords and comments for the active
  33 image, and provides functions for editing them.</P>
  34 <P>To toggle display of the Keywords sidebar press Control + K or
  35 select &ldquo;Keywords&rdquo; from the View menu.</P>

  38 <P><B>Keywords</B><SPAN STYLE="font-weight: medium"> are single words
  39 that are associated to an image. They can be used to classify, group,
  40 or describe; the uses for keywords are only limited by your
  41 imagination.</SPAN> Images associated to one or more keywords can be
  42 found using the <A HREF="5_1_search.html">Search window</A>.</P>
  43 <P><B>Comments</B> is an area to associate a textual description to
  44 an image.</P>

  47 <P>The sidebar is comprised of three sections: Keywords, Comments and
  48 a button bar.</P>
  49 <P><U>Keywords</U></P>
  50 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The keywords panel consists of two
  51 fields. The left field is a text entry that allows direct typing of
  52 one or more keywords. The right field is a list of favorite or often
  53 used keywords that can be associated with the active image by filling
  54 the check box next to the keyword.</P>
  55 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The <B>text entry</B> allows typing
  56 keywords to associate them with the active image. Keywords entered
  57 here can be separated by a space, tab, or comma; creating a new line
  58 by pressing Enter will also separate keywords.</P>
  59 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The <B>favorite keywords</B> list
  60 allows quick selection of commonly used keywords. A keyword is
  61 enabled when the check box next to it is filled. The text entry will
  62 update as words from the list are selected. To edit the favorite
  63 keywords list activate the favorites button at the bottom of the
  64 sidebar.</P>

  66 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This text entry allows entering text
  67 to be associated with the active image.</P>
  68 <P><U>The buttons</U></P>
  69 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><I><SPAN STYLE="font-weight: medium">Note:
  70 These buttons are only displayed as an icon, the text below refers to
  71 the tool tip that appears by hovering the mouse over each button.</SPAN></I></P>
  72 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Edit favorite keywords list</B>:
  73 Activate this button to display a dialog to edit the favorite
  74 keywords list. For details on the dialog refer to the section titled
  75 Favorite Keywords Dialog, below.</P>
  76 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Add keywords to selected files:</B>
  77 This button will be active when more than one image is selected.
  78 Activate this button to add all keywords currently displayed to the
  79 selected list of files.</P>
  80 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Add keywords to selected files,
  81 replacing existing ones:</B><SPAN STYLE="font-weight: medium">  This
  82 button will be active when more than one image is selected. Activate
  83 this button to replace all keywords in the selected files with the
  84 ones that are currently displayed. All previously existing keywords
  85 for those files will be lost.</SPAN></P>
  86 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><SPAN STYLE="font-weight: medium"><B>Save
  87 comment now:</B> Saving of changes to keywords and comments are
  88 slightly delayed</SPAN> to reduce writes to disk. If the changes have
  89 not yet been written to disk this button will be active, activating
  90 it will immediately save the changes.</P>

  93 <P><U>Favorite Keywords Dialog</U></P>
  94 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This dialog allows editing of the
  95 favorite keywords list that is displayed in the Keywords sidebar.
  96 Activating the Add button will create a new blank item at the current
  97 position in the list, the new item will immediately change to the
  98 editing state to allow entry of the new keyword. Activating the
  99 Remove button will remove the selected keyword from the list. To edit
 100 a row highlight it then click it or press Enter on the keyboard.</P>
 101 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">Activate OK to save the changes and
 102 close the dialog, Cancel will discard the changes and close the
 103 dialog.</P>
