  32 <H1>7.3 Keywords Sidebar</H1>
  33 <P>The Keywords sidebar displays keywords and comments for the active
  34 image, and provides functions for editing them.</P>
  35 <P>To toggle display of the Keywords sidebar press Control + K or
  36 select &ldquo;Keywords&rdquo; from the View menu.</P>

  39 <P><B>Keywords</B><SPAN STYLE="font-weight: medium"> are single words
  40 that are associated to an image. They can be used to classify, group,
  41 or describe; the uses for keywords are only limited by your
  42 imagination.</SPAN> Images associated to one or more keywords can be
  43 found using the <A HREF="5_1_search.html">Search window</A>.</P>
  44 <P><B>Comments</B> is an area to associate a textual description to
  45 an image.</P>

  48 <P>The sidebar is comprised of three sections: Keywords, Comments and
  49 a button bar.</P>
  50 <P><U>Keywords</U></P>
  51 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The keywords panel consists of two
  52 fields. The left field is a text entry that allows direct typing of
  53 one or more keywords. The right field is a list of favorite or often
  54 used keywords that can be associated with the active image by filling
  55 the check box next to the keyword.</P>
  56 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The <B>text entry</B> allows typing
  57 keywords to associate them with the active image. Keywords entered
  58 here can be separated by a space, tab, or comma; creating a new line
  59 by pressing Enter will also separate keywords.</P>
  60 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">The <B>favorite keywords</B> list
  61 allows quick selection of commonly used keywords. A keyword is
  62 enabled when the check box next to it is filled. The text entry will
  63 update as words from the list are selected. To edit the favorite
  64 keywords list activate the favorites button at the bottom of the
  65 sidebar.</P>

  67 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This text entry allows entering text
  68 to be associated with the active image.</P>
  69 <P><U>The buttons</U></P>

  71 These buttons are only displayed as an icon, the text below refers to
  72 the tool tip that appears by hovering the mouse over each button.</SPAN></I></P>

  74 Activate this button to display a dialog to edit the favorite
  75 keywords list. For details on the dialog refer to the section titled
  76 Favorite Keywords Dialog, below.</P>

  78 This button will be active when more than one image is selected.
  79 Activate this button to add all keywords currently displayed to the
  80 selected list of files.</P>
  81 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><B>Add keywords to selected files,
  82 replacing existing ones:</B><SPAN STYLE="font-weight: medium">  This
  83 button will be active when more than one image is selected. Activate
  84 this button to replace all keywords in the selected files with the
  85 ones that are currently displayed. All previously existing keywords
  86 for those files will be lost.</SPAN></P>
  87 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><SPAN STYLE="font-weight: medium"><B>Save
  88 comment now:</B> Saving of changes to keywords and comments are
  89 slightly delayed</SPAN> to reduce writes to disk. If the changes have
  90 not yet been written to disk this button will be active, activating
  91 it will immediately save the changes.</P>

  94 <P><U>Favorite Keywords Dialog</U></P>
  95 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">This dialog allows editing of the
  96 favorite keywords list that is displayed in the Keywords sidebar.
  97 Activating the Add button will create a new blank item at the current
  98 position in the list, the new item will immediately change to the
  99 editing state to allow entry of the new keyword. Activating the
 100 Remove button will remove the selected keyword from the list. To edit
 101 a row highlight it then click it or press Enter on the keyboard.</P>
 102 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in">Activate OK to save the changes and
 103 close the dialog, Cancel will discard the changes and close the
 104 dialog.</P>
