32 <H1>8.1 Slide Show</H1>
33 <P>The image pane can be set to automatically change the displayed
34 image after a period of time, in GQview this is referred to as a
38 <P><U>Starting a slide show</U></P>
39 <P>A slide show can be started in a number of ways:</P>
41 <LI><P>From the menu bar - open the <B>View</B> menu and select
42 <B>Toggle slide show</B> to toggle the slide show on or off .</P>
43 <LI><P STYLE="font-weight: medium">From the keyboard - press the <B>S</B>
44 key to toggle the slide show on or off.</P>
45 <LI><P STYLE="font-weight: medium">From a context menu - right click
46 an image pane, and select <B>Start slide show</B>, or <B>Stop slide
47 show</B>; the text will change depending on the state of the current
52 <P><U>Stopping a slide show</U></P>
53 <P>An active slide show can be stopped by using the same functions
54 available to start one, as they work like a toggle switch. If slide
55 show repeat is not enabled in the <A HREF="10_1_general.html">options
56 dialog</A>, the slide show will stop when the last image in the
57 sequence is displayed.</P>
58 <P>Any action that changes the image pane to a new image will stop
59 the active slide show, with the exception of the methods discussed in
60 <A HREF="#navigation">Slide show sequence navigation</A>.</P>
63 <P><U>Slide show status</U></P>
64 <P>The main window <A HREF="2_7_status_bar.html">status bar</A> can
65 be used to determine when a slide show is active, <B>Slide show</B>
66 will be displayed next to the file count field. An individual <A HREF="3_1_image_window.html">Image
67 Window</A> can also display a slide show, however the status will not
68 be immediately visible. To determine the slide show status in an
69 image window, open a context menu by right clicking or using the menu
70 key, the slide show menu item will reflect the slide show status; if
71 <B>Start slide show</B> is displayed, no slide show is active,
72 conversely if <B>Stop slide show</B> is displayed a slide show is
74 <P>When a Slide show is paused, the main window status bar will
75 display <B>Paused</B> instead of <B>Slide show</B>. Likewise, the
76 image context menu will display <B>Pause slide show</B> or <B>Continue
77 slide show</B>, depending on the current state.</P>
80 <P><U>Pausing a slide show</U></P>
81 <P>An active slide show can be paused in two ways:</P>
83 <LI><P>From the keyboard - press the <B>P</B> key while a slide show
85 <LI><P>From a context menu - right click the image pane displaying
86 the slide show, and select <B>Pause slide show</B>, or <B>Continue
87 slide show</B> depending on the current slide show state.</P>
91 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium"><U>Selecting the images to include in
93 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium">When a single image is selected, all
94 images in the current folder are included in the slide show. The
95 sequence will begin with the current image; however if random slide
96 shows are enabled, the sequence will begin with a random image from
98 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium">To only include some images in a slide
99 show, use multiple selection to select the images to include before
100 starting the slide show.</P>
101 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium">An image collection can be used as the
102 list of images, to do this drag an image from a collection window
103 onto the image pane. Starting a slide show will then include the
104 images from that collection.</P>
105 <P>So far, the methods described are for slide shows in a main
106 window, in an <A HREF="3_1_image_window.html">Image Window</A>, the
107 slide show will use all images referenced by that window.</P>
110 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium"><U>Recursive slide show</U></P>
111 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium">In the main window, a recursive slide
112 show can be started from a folder's context menu; the folder's right
113 click menu will include two slide show options:</P>
115 <LI><P STYLE="font-weight: medium">Slide show: This will start a
116 slide show that includes all images in the selected folder.</P>
117 <LI><P STYLE="font-weight: medium">Slide show recursive: The slide
118 show will include all images in the selected folder, and all images
119 in the folders that are contained within the selected folder.</P>
123 <P><A NAME="navigation"></A><U>Slide show sequence navigation</U></P>
124 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium">When a slide show is active, functions
125 that normally change the image forward and backward can be used to
126 step through those contained in the slide show.</P>
129 <P STYLE="font-weight: medium"><U>Configuring a slide show</U></P>
130 <P>The options that control the behavior of slide shows are located
131 on the <A HREF="10_1_general.html">General tab</A> of the options
133 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-weight: medium"><B>Display time</B>:
134 The delay between each image in the slide show can be adjusted with
135 the <SPAN STYLE="text-decoration: none"><B>Delay before image change</B>
137 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in; font-weight: medium; text-decoration: none">
138 <B>Repeat</B>: This will cause the slide show to loop indefinitely,
139 it will continue with the first image after displaying the last image
140 in the slide show list.</P>
141 <P STYLE="margin-left: 0.79in"><SPAN STYLE="text-decoration: none"><B>Random</B>:
142 This will display images randomly selected from the slide show list.
143 Each image from the slide show list will be displayed once.</SPAN>
144 When Repeat is also enabled, the random sequence is changed after
145 each complete cycle of the images.</P>
